Birthday Sweater

Pattern: Lush Autumn Pullover
Yarn: Classic Elite Lush (a bit more than 7 skeins)
Notions: US 9 rosewood circ
Time: December 15, 2009 to February 2, 2010
Comments: I have wanted to knit something out of Lush for years, but it is not a very practical yarn for Mid-Atlantic winters; it is, however, a perfect yarn for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, winters. I drew my sister in the family Christmas swap and spotted this sweater pattern a few days later. I sent her a link to the sweater pattern and asked if she liked it. Since Lush is a pretty pricey yarn, I offered to knit it for her as a combined birthday and Christmas gift. She loved the idea. We consulted on color, and I started knitting. I finished knitting during the first week in January, but the January travel schedule interfered with blocking and finishing. If we ever move to a colder climate, I may make this sweater for myself. It is simple, well-fitted, and really cute.
I modified the pattern a bit by adding an inch between the waist shaping and the underarm decreases and lengthening the sleeves to 3/4 length. Without those mods, I would have made the 38" size in just under 7 balls of yarn. My sister is tall and appreciates a sweater that actually covers her back waist. She reports that the fit is perfect.
Miss Z's Whirligig Shrug

Pattern: Whirligig Shrug by Stefanie Japel
Yarn: Classic Elite Premiere (2 skeins)
Notions: US 6 circ and DPNs
Time: January 11 to 31, 2010
Comments: Quick, fun, knit. The published yarn requirements are way out of whack. The largest size calls for 500 yards of yarn, I used 200. I can't wait to see a few photos of Miss Z in her shrug.
"move to a colder climate" Huh? That kind of rules out Hawaii. :(
